Breaking free from global liquidity silos: New technology changes the game

Economists, pundits, institutions and investors often talk about the global financial system. When stocks go up and trade thrives, they applaud its contributions to prosperity; when the markets crash and stocks dip, they blame its inhuman scale or its untrustworthy manipulators. But anyone who has attempted to diversify their portfolio with foreign stocks or acquire another nation’s bonds quickly comes to the same conclusion: The global financial system isn’t a single entity. “The system,” singular, is really “The systems,” plural. How do the pieces of the global financial system interact? Not always as well as might be hoped, as exemplified by the economic uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. Trade Setup: Nifty may see stable start, but every cue is calling for caution

In listless trade, the domestic stock market spent whole of Friday’s session moving in a narrow, capped range before ending on a flat note. The market saw a modestly positive start to the session and then pared those gains in early trade. After that, the headline index, and the markets in general, went nowhere. Nifty didn’t show the directional bias for the entire session and kept on going in and out of the positive territory. The index finally ended the day with a net gain of 15.20 points, or 0.13 per cent. Nifty is currently placed a notch above the double top resistance point at 11,430 level. With a closing above this level, the index has attempted to take out this level again. While this attempt remains in force, it would be crucially important for the index to keep its head above the ...

How combative mutual funds could dash small-cap party hopes

MUMBAI: The weekend celebrations of investors in small-cap stocks over the capital market regulator's stricter investment norms for mutual funds' multi-cap funds - a product with a mandate to invest across share categories -- may prove to be premature.
