HSBC Says EU Dropped Foreign Exchange Options Antitrust Probe – Bloomberg Law

HSBC says the European Commission told it in May it had dropped an antitrust probe into foreign exchange options trading, HSBC comments in regulatory filing.

  • “In May 2020, HSBC was informed that the EC had discontinued its investigation and does not intend to take further action”
  • HSBC Holdings and HSBC Bank plc got a request for information in October 2018 on potential coordination in foreign exchange options trading
  • NOTE: EU never escalated probe by formally opening an investigation
