
U.S. stock index futures fell late Thursday, ahead of an expected announcement by President Donald Trump on China on Friday. As of midnight Eastern, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures YM00, -0.47% were down about than 120 points, or 0.5%, while S&P 500 futures ES00, -0.41% and Nasdaq-100 futures NQ00, -0.37% fell about the same percentage. Stocks closed lower Thursday, falling sharply in the final hour of trading, after Trump said he would hold a news conference on China on Friday, rattling investors who had been enjoying a three-day rally on optimism about an economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. The Dow DJIA, -0.57% closed down 147.63 points, or 0.6%, at 25,400.64, while the S&P 500 SPX, -0.21% lost 6.40 points, or 0.2%, to end at 3,029.73 and the Nasdaq Composite COMP, -0.46% closed 43.37 points, or 0.5%, lower at 9,368.99.
