MOHALI: The police have arrested two miscreants for duping two residents of the Tricity on the pretext of providing them foreign currency at a lower price.
The police said the accused used to show the victims original foreign currency and then lured them by stating that they had more such currencies and would sell those at a lower price.
The accused have been identified as Vijay, who hails from Uttar Pradesh, and Lal Chand Ali from Assam. Both were currently living on a rented accommodation in Sohana, Mohali. According to the police officials, the miscreants used to target senior citizens.
The police have recovered a total of Rs 43,000 from them and 20 US dollars and some amount of gold.
SI Jagdeep Singh Brar, SHO, Phase XI, said “Both the miscreants are in police custody. They duped two persons, Gurnam Singh of Chandigarh and Rajesh Kumar of Mohali, of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh, respectively. We are investigating the matter.”
